Neat Mexican Mix, 5.75 Ounce (Pack of 6)

6 pkgs of very high cal meat substitute. For this reason I just gave it to friends who could afford the extra calories. I didn't want to taste it, it looked and sounded too good :)

I am always looking for meat alternatives as the ones that are on the market for beef just don't taste good in my opinion. I saw this on a page on Facebook and decided to give it a try. Amazon Prime delivered it in 2 days and I couldn't wait to cook it up. I made it for lunch today and everyone in my family loved it. They said if I hadn't told them it wasn't real meat ahead of time they wouldn't have known. They aren't picky eaters, so I wasn't surprised they liked it and they are always happy to accommodate their vegetarian mom. I'm glad I ordered the pack of 6 so we can have it again and again!One word of caution while cooking neat for the first time....I was a little worried I'd done something wrong because until it was really heated up I couldn't break it up from one big clump and it didn't resemble crumbled beef at all, but after it was thoroughly heated through I was able to break it down and it looked just like crumbled ground beef. I did add a bit of salsa so it wasn't dry like others have done, but I'm not sure it was absolutely necessary.Thank you, neat!!!!

It is easy to make. They texture is OK, the taste is OK. I am going to experiment with recipes and see what happens.

I have been anxiously awaiting for Amazon to start carrying this product. I ordered it immediately and as soon as I got it I couldnt wait to cook it up. I try to eat as vegan as possible so instead of eggs I used "flax eggs". I mixed 2 tablespoons of ground flax with 6 tablespoons of water and let sit for about 5-7 minutes to thicken up. I then followed the instructions on the package and in about 7 minutes of frying time VOILA! - delicious taco NEAT! I used it in a burrito with peppers and potatoes and it was absolutely fantastic. My husband and kids liked it too which is saying alot because they are die hard carnivores. I cant wait to try the other flavors and I highly recommend this product! Happy NEAT eating :)

Good flavor but a bit on the dry side.

As soon as my package arrived, I cooked a batch. Right off the bat, it smelled like that Old El Paso or Ortega taco mix you enjoyed as a kid. That's a good thing.I made mine vegan and used two Ener-G fake eggs. It makes a thick batter that you plop on a heated skillet. As it cooks, you break it up into crumbles. Add some salsa, chopped raw onions and anything else and you will never know it's nut- and bean-based. I like that it's soy free also.I'll make tamales next.By the way, the crumbles are dry but are moistened by other ingredients...like salsa, guacamole, etc. Also, you can go on YouTube to see how to make this product.Wonderful product..highly recommend!

I became a vegetarian about a year ago and rarely miss meat but this product and its reviews really tempted me. I can't imagine anyone thinking that this product mimics meat or even soy products in any way shape or form. The taste is just horrible. Maybe if you put it in a taco shell and piled enough veggies, cheese and salsa on top you might kill the taste and it might resemble a taco. I tasted it right from the pan and threw it out.

I tried this product for the first time at Expo East in September. I've been a vegetarian for over thirty years and vegan-ish for over two years. In addition, I work in the natural/organic products world, so I know my way around not only the vegetarian kitchen, but also the industry. This product is pure genius. No soy, no gluten, no icky ingredients you can't pronounce -- just pure simple beans, oats, nuts and organic cornmeal, plus spices. After my first taste, I knew I had to buy it when I got home for my husband and two daughters (none are vegetarian). And, as I predicted, they loved it. This will now be my new staple "meat" for Taco Tuesday. Eager to try the other flavors once they are available!
