A great little feel-good movie
Absolutely loved it. The way the little girl "came around" to appreciating the natural environment is very charming.I found it a little odd though, that Grandad would go away for so long without double checking with the parent, and "checking in" every so often. It shows a little bit of the maverick in the Grandfather! This is an older movie with a similar theme to the directors later "The Nightingale", which is set in Japan but again about an old man who takes his granddaughter on an expedition to the country.

The Butterfly Soars
The Butterfly lived up to my high expectations. The story line is refreshingly different, visually it is an absolute delight, the acting is first class and I was reminded of why I like to watch French Movies: they are almost never clichéd. If I had find a criticism it would be that the ending seems a little rushed,as though the cutting editor got carried away but that does show that lengthy explanations of the obvious are really unnecessary. The Butterfly stayed with me for days after I watched it. I recommend it for all ages.Cate - Australia

One of my all-time favorites.
I teach French at a middle-school and this one of two movies I show 6th- graders (the other being the Red Balloon). This movie is great for tweens - it is totally clean - no bad language, violence, or nudity. It's sweet, philosophical, and uplifting. Plus, it has beautiful scenes of France. The 6th graders always love this movie.

Great movie for French classes
Feel good movies with appropriate themes are difficult to find for high school students. The vocabulary is easy to, understand. This was a hit!

Sweet story line of a little girl who needs a friend
A heart-warming story. Elsa meets Julien, who collects butterflies and moths. Elsa's curiosity leads to some mountain adventures with Julien while chasing the Isabella. Life lessons are learned along the way. My copy was in French, with English sub-titles. Even though I minored in French in college 45 years ago, I sometimes miss a word here or there, so the sub-titles are helpful even if you understand French (for the most part). J'ai beaucoup aimé ce film. Elsa est très mignon.

The butterfly
I bought this movie to show in my French class thinking that it might lead to interesting discussions. In addition, unlike many French films, it seemed to be appropriate to show to high schoolers. While, the latter is true, I'm not sure about the former. I enjoyed the film but I'm not sure if it will hold the interest of my audience. It's philosophical, tender and slow- moving but there's not much as far as intrigue goes. If you like movies that analyze characters rather than tell a story, then this should interest you.

Love, love love!
It was my childhood favorite, had a great time watching it again after so many years. The disc came in good shape, and the case as well. I would recommend this film to practically everybody- it's simple and entertaining enough for children, yet it deals with serious topics that add another layer of authenticity, and it makes it enjoyable for adults as well. A real and raw story of love and friendship, such a shame it's so underrated. Recommend with all my heart :)
