I like it fits My Penguin PRO 275 filter . I was able to modify these with a pair of side cuts very easy.Just snip as close to the edges as possible and snip in the middle, then use Your fingers to rock back and forth till the plastic breaks.This allowed Me to make room for my own Aquarium Filter Pad .Bought some of this Aquatic-Experts-Classic-Bonded filter media available here on amazon that I can cut to fit and make my own filter cartridge .Saves Me money and I just cut to fit . better that the over priced C Cartridges From marineland .in my picture the right one has the modification vs the left is stock. this allows more room to add Your own media . It is quite simple to do and does not hurt anything , it is just as sturdy as the non modded one .

I saw these and thought they'd be made out of that crappy black plastic that you find on cheaply produced dollar store baskets and strainers. I still ordered them, figuring regardless of that they would still work. I was pleasantly surprised to find that they're made of a very sturdy plastic. I dropped one on my kitchen floor thinking it would shatter but it didn't. I only needed one as I only had one spot in a filter that I was going to use it, but it required me to order 2. I figured I'd have a backup. Crazy thing is, I've found that because of how sturdy it is, and the fact that its got the holes in it, I ended up using it to put my coffee mug on!! It stops my mug from discoloring my wood furniture, and any coffee ring just stays on the plastic and its super easy to rinse off! I realized that if I put a piece of thin plastic inside of it, I was also able to use it for cold drinks! The condensation drips onto the plastic, the raised vented part keeps the cold away from the table. I know, I'm nuts right? But is it great for the charcoal? Absolutely! And apparently its the best thermal protective/water protective coaster I've ever had on top of that! I'm actually going to order some more so that I can have more coasters! Perhaps not recommended if you don't want a weird looking grey coaster on your table. : ) Pssst... I also use it for cereal and ice cream bowls!!

I only low rated value because somebody got the reusable reloadable charcoal cartridge and the media cartridge backwards when listing it. Why should I have to by a min of 2 pigs with 2 units each or subscribe for a designed to be cleaned and refilled well built unit... But the media filters can be bought as desired .. Duhhhhh. Otherwise its a solid value unit. Even being forced to buy basically a quad order. Pro tip don't buy replacement media cartridges for your penguin. Just turn the spare reloadable cartridge into a media filter that you can toss the insert away. Scotchbrite pads are great for this.

So first, a little about my aquariums. I have 15 occupied aquariums, including a 75 gallon, two 55’s and a 40 breeder. I run a lot of Marineland Penguin filters, and they use a total of 34 filter cartridges. Even buying in bulk this is about $100, which is a lot to spend every month. There are knockoff cartridges for 1/2 to 2/3 that in price and meh in quality in my opinion.I recently got 6 of these. I barely made a dent in the 3 pound bag of carbon I bought. Assuming the use of 3 lbs carbon per month, at $8 a pound, that’s $288. 34 cartridges cost $134. In a year’s time that’s $424, versus $1200 in cartridges for brand name changed monthly.

Love using these in my fishtank. Makes it so much cheaper to put filter netting in these and swap out for clean filter in a week. Fish are happy and tank is much cleaner and my wallet is so much happier

These plastic box like cartridges feel flimsy and the closing tabs can break off easy. However, they are the only ones that fit the Penquin filters. You are not required to use these in the filters but I fill these with charcoal or ammonia removing pellets to give the filter system an extra boost. This really helps since I reuse the expensive blue filter pads a few times before throwing them out. Simply use a garden hose to clean the blue filter pads and fill the plastic cartridges with charcoal or ammonia removing pellets.

I cut my Aquarium Activated Carbon Filter Media Pad and put it in this,works better than just carbon
