Natalie these things were designed in Switzerland and made in China. I just love this thing. I've had it several years and it's just like new. I is very compact and everything stores really well. In fact I still store it in the original box that it came in. I would highly recommend it. The quality was good so I just assumed that it was Swiss made. To answer your question I had to check the box and to my suprise it was made in China.

Q: Can you adjust the thickness of the cut

Yes, one blade is 1/8 and the second thickness is 1/32.

Q: How thick are the slices

The unit shown is not what I have. It is difficult to state the thickness without looking at the unit. i use it for shredding and grating, not slicing because it is so difficult to work with. It is a poor design and difficult to use. The holding device does not work well at all, especially for slicing. I would not recommend any version of this item.

Q: Anyone use this to slice mushrooms and strawberries?

Not unless they are very firm. I've been able to slice firm Roma tomatoes with the Zyliss.
