Vantec USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-C 2.5" SATA SSD/HDD Storage Adapter (CB-STC31-2PB) , black

I've purchased a number of these to rescue older drives from oblivion. Turns them into useful extra storage devices. No tools. Just snap together.

I was just looking for usb c stuff in general, wasn't intending to buy a drive case, but saw this guy for less than 11 bucks.I usually carry around a Star Tech Sata adapter like what's in this case, but thought this was so cool, because now I can carry a drive with me (at almost no weight with an SSD), and then if I need to work on another 2.5" drive, I can just pop out the connector.My Samsung EVO is maxing out the connection at 450GB, which is about as fast as a SATA 3 can go LOL....so the USB 3.1 Gen 2 is a bit overkill.I paired this with a monoprice USB C to A 3.1 Gen 2 adapter, so I'm prepared for anything!

My only complaint and this is a small complaint, is that the interface lead could be 3 or 4 inches longer. Otherwise, this is just the ticket for externally attaching my SSD externally. Transfer rates appear to be fairly rapid, the interface can be utilized with or without the drive case. I'm quite satisfied with this purchase.

I rarely even use the case but I love that it's included incase I plan on traveling and using an internal drive as an external.

I used the product with different SSD drives on a 2018 Mac mini. It worked for a week or so then the drive would periodically disappear while using it and consistently not boot when i turned off the Mac. I tried multiple SSD drives and multiple ports on the Mac mini - all with the same result. I'm counting on a robust external SSD since I didnt want to pay Apple's price for more SSD space but this certainly isn't cutting it. I have to re-seed the usb cable at least a couple times after booting my Mac before it recognizes the SSD. The quality assurance is suspect if they ship product that fails so quickly. Happy that others received a good one - I wasnt so lucky.

Very easy to use. Fits SSD well. Very fast.

So far I like it and no issue. The material is good for the price.

I like the compact and minimal design of the Vantec SSD/HDD case. It's a reasonable price, an "Amazon's Choice" product, lightweight and is easy to use.I work remotely with a laptop, and after using the product daily for about a month, I've noticed that it's been struggling to keep a connection steady - it'll disconnect (most likely caused by subtle movements like shifting of the laptop or the table shaking), then sometime reconnect shortly after. I would have to do my own troubleshooting if it doesn't reconnect on it's own. If I could guess, I've probably inserted and removed the USB plug about 200 times since I've received the product, and I believe the USB connector on the one I received is already becoming faulty; but seems to be a common issue among other reviewers.
