Great read, battle insights and watercolour artwork brings soldiers to life!!!
I loved the detail and variety of the watercolour paintings for the different types of soldier at Austerlitz. There are well over 100 paintings. The artwork covers all three armies but also includes the support troops and details about weapons and horse furniture. The information on the uniforms is very detailed with referencing to sources. Something I haven't found in any other publication. Above all, I enjoyed reading the articles on each regiment and the eyewitness accounts of the battle - it really brought this great battle to life! Well done Gerard!

Incredibly useful book on the battle
This is an an excellent book that covers the battle, the orders of battle and the uniforms of the armies. Similar in style to the old Blandford uniform books but with more detail and great uniform plates. If you have an interest in the battle..this is for you.

An Outstanding reference work. A must-have for all students of the Napoleonic Wars.
I bought this as a present for my husband and he insisted on writing a review;Uniforms of Austerlitz is an excellent, refreshing and welcome addition to the literature and in my opinion badly needed. Every student of the Napoleonic Wars should have this book - that's how good it is.The colour plates and art work are simply breathtaking. The attention to detail is first class. Each plate is a work of art in it's own right and must have taken many hours or days even to render. And that's on top of the years of research to discover the facts in the first place. There are well over 100 paintings. Just for that this book would be excellent value for money. But it doesn't stop there.Using first-hand accounts and primary sources, the author has carefully researched every aspect of the armies and the battle. That knowledge shows in the well integrated writing as well as in the art work. The uniforms are shown alongside accounts of the battle and it's context with maps and photographs. Very detailed and engaging, there are accounts here that I haven't seen before. Well done to get to this level of insight! It's so refreshing to see work like this which really brings the Napoleonic age and thinking to life.A unique and personal book, not a production-line piece (like Osprey) in any sense. In conclusion. I HIGHLY recommend Uniforms of Austerlitz. Thank you to my wife!
