Fantastic
I lost my first copy of this book and still feel that a colleague saw it and wanted it for themselves. However, I bought a new copy to use with my new class. It is great in explaining the daily life of Romans from a kids point of view, and to offer a view point about the disaster. So many schemes recommend that the children write newspaper articles about such events. This offers a way into the story and offers information that they can use as if they were eye-witnesses themselves. Also contains great art ideas to use in Art lessons, especially its use of colour and pattern.

Inspirational historical story with great illustrations
This was purchased to use with pupils studying both the Romans and Natural Disasters - what a great story to help link the two and bring events and times to life in the children's imaginations! it proved useful for stimulating discussions, encouraging questions and inspiring writing. For anyone not a teacher out there, it is also a great children's story and interesting read!

Great story to learn about the past
Used this book to start a Roman topic in year 3 (as we had just learnt about igneous rock) - children loved the story and wrote their own fantastic versions.

I used this when teaching about Pompeii to a group of year 2s and 3s. We used it as inspiration for our own volcano stories. Although the ending is sad, the children related to it well and were quite glad it was realistic. The language used was great and ticked off speech punctuation, prepositional phrases and noun phrases. I would recommend this book to teachers and children interested in the Romans. My class took the song from the story and turned it into a playground chant so it has definitely stuck with them!

Very nice book
I bought this book for my 7yo who needed it for school literacy lessons. She loved it even though it didn't have happy ending. She still comes back to it and reads it. Illustrations are nice and helped a lot with her writing.

A must have
Extremely well written and illustrated book. My son read it all with me the moment it arrived. It brings to life the volcanic erruption that happened in Pompeii by having characters who were living in that city at the time. The illustrations are colourful and descriptive as well.
