Vintage to Vogue: The Best of Workbasket

Expected more of an assortment of patterns, the pattern shown were complex. I would not recommend for a beginning knitter.

I remember how my mother looked forward to getting The Workbasket and this brings back wonderful memories. It has patterns of beautiful things to knit or crochet, and compares patterns popular in the past with the present.

I should have taken the advice of one reviewer who said most of these patterns have nothing to do with the vintage pattern style shown. There are pictures shown of the vintage style, but when you get to the pattern that is listed, it's not the same. Disappointing!

I misunderstood about what this publication is about. The title mislead me; I thought it was going to be "vintage VOGUE designs" and I believe this might have been done deliberately---very misleading. Also, I was struck by how much better the yarns and designs appeared in former years----much better than what was chosen to update the designs! Yes, overall, the book is a disappointment. Forget this one and move on to better thought out publications.

I was really looking forward to receiving this book. I had received the Workbasket when I was learning how to knit and crochet and I have many fond memories of it. I am very unhappy with the book. The vintage patterns are reworked for the book and in many cases the vintage were much better. It is too bad that instructions are not included for the vintage as I found several of them to be nicer than the new patterns.
