Exactly I was looking for
I was a little unsure about purchasing this product after reading some of the reviews that listed difficult assembly and poor quality parts, but I was pleasantly surprised. My husband and the UPS man struggled to get this VERY heavy box up two flights of stairs to our apartment. The parts were good quality, the same as other products I have purchased from Target or Ikea. It took me a little less than 2 hours to assemble by myself (and I am a small female, although I'm pretty handy.) The trickiest part was the cam locks- the trick is to not put the cam locks in until everything is in place, then place them so that they fit onto the screw and turn them to lock- instead of placing the cam locks in first and then trying to fumble them into place. It was the perfect size for our space and very sturdy. Overall very happy with the purchase!

Lots to love, also to not so much like...
I loved the look of this desk and knew it would be perfect for our 12 year old's room. He uses a lap top, doesn't have a lot of knick knack stuff, but some cool things to display, and not the biggest room in the world. I'd give the piece 5 stars for the price to quality ratio, 1 star for the directions, 1 star to the first Amazon CS rep, 5 to the second Amazon CS rep and 3 for the damage only because the manufacturer is replacing the items needed...read on...It was a Christmas gift and we planned to put together and rearrange his room on Saturday. All was great, until we lugged the 100 lb box up the 2 stories and opened the box, to find two of the back pieces busted in half. We wanted to still get it together and hoped we could get the replacements from the manufacturer.Putting the desk together was a task for this spacial challenged brain - note to manufacturer, indicate at least back and bottom on the pieces. Because it's a ladder desk, the way the pieces go is very important and there is very little in the directions to help with it. The directions were totally lacking and the fastener locks fell out and broke in a couple spots. It took hours to put together, and I am a master of the furniture building! It looked great, except for the pieces that were damaged and had to be fixed to work until replacements came. I got on CS Chat with Amazon and at first it was a lot of nos and the only option was to pack up the whole desk and get a new one or a 10% refund to make up for it, to which I balked and stood firm. Finally, I got on with the large item department who called the manufacturer and they are in the process of sending replacements, saving me to have to decide between figuring out how to send back this heavy item and go through the hell of putting it together again! Don't take no for an answer if anything arrives damaged, ask for the large furniture department!Thursday, we tackle the hobby desk from the same company for our 7 year old. Fingers crossed!

The desk is great, it's very durable and stylish and a good size if you don't have a lot of space. The only con is if you have a large pc tower you'll have to put it sideways on the bottom shelf, my 22in monitor fits perfectly. Another thing you should do is find out if the seller uses FedEx before ordering, they broke the desk before I even got it. Instead of telling me it was damaged they just pretended it was still on the truck for delivery. I found out what happened by calling them, in the end it took almost 3wks to get my desk. I am happy now that I got it because I love it.

My Nightmare with my Red Altra Ladder Bookcase
When I finally got all of the pieces out of the box last week I was disappointed & still haven't even put it together! On two of the pieces the paint is pulling up in the corner from the plywood. I'm slightly nervous it's going to happen with other pieces too.I'm still excited about the finished project & hope those corners are in the back, must stay positive, right?I've been ill which is why it's been so slow going, but hope to have it done this weekend. The only other thing is I planned on using it as a work station for the homeopathic business I've been trying to start. That would mean lotions, essential oils, etc.I had it in my mind to line the shelves, but I don't know if I should seal this with something else first. I'm disabled & don't want to make more work for myself than necessary.July 3- My kind neighbor rigged it after countless orders of parts, then when it was partially together we found even more damage! They wanted pics, I sent pics. We continued to find more & more damage. Then two pieces didn't line up, a cam went all the way through, they would do nothing for me except send more parts unless I wanted to send it back! After my friend went that far, and anyone who has one knows how heavy they are and to box &mail? This company is awful! I bought an outside warranty too, doesn't kick in for a year! Hah! Shame on me.

Wont buy this brand again.
The cheap cams that hold this thing together break when you twist them into the sockets. I had to finish putting this thing together with other hardware. when the cams twist in the sockets they either broke or pushed through the particle-board leaving an unsightly blemish. The only reason I didn't send it back was I didn't want to try and get it all back in the box and haul it down to the post office. The only reason I'm giving it 2 stars is my girlfriend who is using this for a make-up vanity likes the color.

Sturdy, stylish, easy to assemble
This fits in well with my decor. It was easy to assemble (two of us did it in an afternoon). The directions are much more explicit and easy to follow than standard Ikea directions. All of the tools except a screwdriver are included. Doesn't feel cheap or flatpacky. I love it.

A lot of work especially if you don't have any help. This is nice looking temporary furniture but I will never again attempt to assemble one again, even if I did have help. The parts take some doing to get them perfectly seated together. This is laminated particle board and I guess I expected too much. Once it is assembled, don't plan on moving it unless you have a three or four man moving team as it will break apart or separate on you, plus it weighs a ton and is really awkward. All in all, it is a nice display/bookcase for the low cost.
