This is the perfect size curling iron!
This is the one, ladies! Watched a TikTok video where this was the exact size the gal used for her beauty pageants and it really is perfect. I had a one and a half inch that was a little bit too large and then a 1 inch that was just a little too narrow. This is the Goldilocks curling iron just right And of course this brand these last forever. I also like that there’s a on and off switch.

Works
My other curling iron is textured & would snag my hair. This one is smooth & glides through softly & non damaging. Way better.

Cannot Change Spring
Why did you pick this product vs others?:I have had Hot Tools products forever. I bought this about 1 1/2 years ago and am just now writing a review. It heats up great-that is still working. I am frustrated because they do not give you an extra spring with the product. Many of my older curing irons always had an extra spring. So I ordered a new curling iron and I am praying it comes really soon but it’s coming from across the country. Today when I was using my old one, the clamp opened and didn’t close up around my hair. I had to push it down and after that the clamp was so loose. I found that I had some extra springs I kept from previous curling irons so I thought I would replace it. I couldn’t even get the process started. One of the tiny screws on the clamp needed to be removed and it was screwed so tight I could not get it out. I believe it was screwed in crooked so that made it impossible to unscrew. After fooling with it for 30 minutes I gave up. I would normally give it 5 starts. But please Hot Tools-give us spare springs and make the screws easy to get out!!

#1 Curling Iron!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I received my curling iron this week and even though I've only used it for a few days, I am loving it! I bought the Hot Tools Professional Curling Iron 1 1/2" barrel, which is the perfect size for larger curls and adding body to your hair. I've used Conair brand, same size barrel for over 10 years and every time I had to buy a new one, it was because the spring on them always gave out, the heat was always fine. This time I decided I was going to try a new brand, since I wanted a longer lasting one and being a big fan of Amazon, I done my research and this is the one I went for based on the mixed reviews and the awesome price. Here are some PROS:** VERY HOT at the highest heat (For thick fine straight hair such as mine I need the hottest setting, and the curls feel so soft when done using it and adds nice body).** Cord length is perfect, longer than Conair.** Barrel thumb holder at the end is awesome, Conair doesn't have this feature to stick your finger in to hold the end of the barrel.** End of the barrel holder is longer and helps not to burn delicate fingers.** Swivel cord is very helpful.** Definitely start at a low temperature and move the dial forward as you need to for the temperature setting you like.** Hand grip is soft and comfortable.********* The BONUS: 2 extra springs (Comes with directions of how to install them, with black and white step-by-stem photo process, seems easy). Now this makes having this curling a MUST for long term, especially when the spring is the first to go. Plus, the directions come with a mailer if you want to buy more springs at a rate of about $2.00 per spring (If you absolutely want more).OVERALL: For the price of this curling iron and the 2 additional springs that come with it, long term seems indefinite and it is an EXCELLENT DEAL!! Only question is how long does the temperature dial button, on/off switch, and heating element go out? That is the only question that arises when using this for years down the road...Here are some CONS:** The location of the temperature button on the left side and the on/off switch on the right side take some getting used to for your fingers if your new to Hot Tools. It can be easy to turn on/off with your finger, which could cause some problems. Takes time to get used to having an on/off slider switch.** The power indicator light is on the left side, where the temperature control dial is. The power light indicator is a light orange color, it's not that bright to signify the power is on.** ONLY DOWNSIDE: The power light indicator stays a solid orange, does NOT signify when the curling iron is ready to use at your select temperature setting. The directions says it takes 60 seconds to heat up, but the power light indicator does not show the time it's taking to heat up. As a previous Conair user it was very handy to see when the curling iron was ready to use because the power light quit blinking to signify to the user that it was ready to use.**** Recommendation: A different power light indicator would benefit this curling iron, perhaps a better location at the top, in between the temperature dial and on/off power slide switch, a brighter light to indicate power, and some sort of blinking motion for the indicator power light to let the user know that it is ready and hot enough to use. A different on/off switch could help as well.Best wishes to any new Hot Tools curling iron users, I hope this review helps you to decide and ENJOY! :-)

Do Not Buy!
***UPDATE!****I was very happy with my new curling iron....until it died only a few months after I had purchased it-- it died in February, around Valentines Day. I mean, died as in completely dead, right before I was to leave on a trip (I went out of town sporting some really flat hair). I plugged it in one day and it remained cold as ice. I tried different outlets around my home to see if the GFI had tripped. But no, it was the iron. Keep in mind, I only used it two or three times a week in a home setting where it was plugged in for no more than 30 to 45 minutes at a time.Like most Americans, I am no longer surprised by what I call "The (Made In) China Syndrome," where electrical appliances have become almost disposable in nature. But even though I'm not surprised by these short-lived appliances, I am getting really sick of it. It's not so bad when a manufacturer will stand by their product and replace it without a hassle or undue cost. But that is not the case with HOT TOOLS. Their "warranty" consists of the consumer paying the shipping to send the item to them, PLUS enclosing a $5 check for return shipping, unless you live in CA where apparently they cannot legally charge you the $5 return shipping (all states should adopt this policy).I took the iron to the USPS where they told me it would cost just under $10 to return it. Plus I would have to send that other $5 in. So, it would cost me $15 to get a replacement for an item that is undoubtedly defective.I am thinking about going ahead and sending it back simply because I am sick of buying electrical products with what I have deemed are bogus warranties. Manufacturers realize that the expense and hassle of enforcing the warranty is probably not worth it.I am also getting tired of "The China Syndrome." If manufacturers insist on having their products made in China, they should step up quality control or offer a consumer-friendly warranty. Many companies do.Aside from going through the warranty process, Hot Tools is on my list of "never buy again." From now on, I will investigate a warranty before I buy anything electrical or stick to those reputable companies that offer a consumer-friendly warranty. Here is my original review:This has been one of the best buys I've made from Amazon.I always use "professional" curling irons at home on my unruly beach hair because they have higher heat settings, and that's what it takes to make any kind of lasting difference with my hair. When my 1.5 inch curling iron died after 6 years of daily use, I began looking to replace it. I considered paying close to $100 for a popular brand name, but after reading the description and reviews on this Hot Tools, decided to go with it instead, and at a substantial savings. Boy am I glad I did! This curling iron heats up in a flash and has/does everything I need. There is an adjustable heat setting and a swivel cord so styling is easy. There is no auto-off feature, which I like, so that the curling iron doesn't turn off if I can't get right to it (just have to remember to turn it off before leaving the house!).The 1.5 inch barrel is perfect for my mid-length hair. Like most people, I've tried turning my flat iron under to get a little bit of bounce or shape, because I don't look good with stick-straight hair. But a flat iron just doesn't do as good a job as a big-barreled curling iron and sometimes leaves a line. I also use a curling iron close to the roots to give my hair some lift, which I haven't been able to do with a flat iron. For everyday hair, it takes me about 5 to 7 minutes to get the look I want. For special occasions, I use small sections and setting "product" to do big, loose curls. It takes longer, maybe 20-25 minutes, but a 1.5 inch curling iron like this produces an excellent result. In short, this curling iron does everything I need it to do at a fraction of the price of that more expensive brand. What more could I ask for in a curling iron?
