Does not work, omitted laser beam onto, reflective tape supplied, but gives no reading, total waste of money, will be attempting to return

Looks good but doesn't work correctly.
I'm using this product to calibrate the rev counter on my boat's diesel engine. It gives very variable readings and none anywhere near the anticipated reading. The engine's speed is limited to about 3,500 rpm, but this device will provide readings up to 6,000 rpm when the rev counter on the instrument panel reads 2,000 rpm.I'm going to return it for another one.
