Great paint

Lovely paint, with a pleasant matt sheen. Very easy to apply, and had good coverage.

Great Product

If you can, always use the oil based version. Far superior coverage and durability.

Paint

We've used this paint to paint a radiator. Quite a think paint, went on really well and radiator looks super. A little more expensive than wanted to pay but result was worth it

Takes some trial and error

Thought I'd try the trade satinwood as it seemed to be recommended by the professional painters and had good reviews.I was using it on a mixer of surfaces from new cut timber, old areas that have been there for over a century and green moisture boards.Started with two coats of undercoat rubbed back and then one coat of the satinwood using a brush rather than a roller.Looked decent with the one coat but just decent and I was wondering if it was worth paying almost double for the finished look.As I'm retired and have time I decided to do a second coat so ordered another tin, this being my 3x5ltr and a large amount to cover. What a transformation the second coat made, changed the whole brightness of all the woodwork and suddenly it was all worthwhile.Never been one for painting myself so I was learning on the job so you assume that you open the tin and get on with it, this paint has taught me to get the feel of the paint and it's okay to thin it down a little and for example spindles use it without thinning. My first coat on panels was just a splash of thinner to allow it to flow but not enough to run in the corners, the second coat was around 10% thinner but it spreads further with less brush marks.I guess I used almost 2 tins for the first coat and the third tin for the second coat. Was the paint value for money?. Absolutely if like myself with nothing other common sense to work with I have produced a finish that if done by a professional I would have been over the moon with.Total cost was 3 tins of satinwood £180, 2 of undercoat £28, decent brushes £30 and thinners £10, so just around the £275 mark for the hall, three landings and two stairs all 1m high panels, 120 spindles, doors and frames.Yes no labour costs but I think the paint is the reason I was able to do the job and end up with professional finish.

Best satin to buy

Have used many a cheaper brand than dulux trade, and they don't match up to this. This is so lovely to paint with and actually smells like paint too! Covers really well and often doesn't need a second coat, although on occasion I have.Have used this throughout my house as redecorating and although pricier it's worth it. It takes about 3 hours for it to not be wet, and about another 3 to 6 hours to be completely dry. Once dry you can wipe off marks and dirt and doesn't take paint off. Downside to that being that if you spill some, or drip, you'll need turps to remove it.
