Dumplings are one of our family's favorite food. Rather that using a dough, we most of the time get the wrapper. Every time we make dumpling, my 4 year old wants to participate and make dumplings with us. This dumpling kit with ingredients was very good way to start from scratch and teach her about the dumpling, recipe. Overall she enjoyed the process and she ate all the dumplings that she made.If you look at this kit as food, its quite expensive. The All purpose flour that in the pack is very elastic so hard to roll to make dumpling thin. The colors that in the kit are good considering the fact that they are all natural as it colored the dough perfect when used in right amount. I used 1 cup of flour to 1 pack of color. The dumpling cutter and rolling pin are basic, does the work and is durable.If you look at this kit as activity that results in good and healthy food for dinner/ lunch $40 is worth the price.

The printed instructions in the box explain how to make a batch of 20 dumpling wrappers of a single color and shape (there are enough supplies to do the recipe 4 times, a different color each time). There are also recipes to make filling for the dumplings, but you will need to provide the ingredients. There are no instructions for the fancy multi-color dumplings featured. Two QR codes in the instructions (one labeled "Cooking Video" the other labeled "Tips & Tricks") gave me the expectation that more info would be found online, but they both took me to the Global Grub homepage trying to sell me similar kits with no clear way to get the additional information. Eventually I found the page for this kit which had a video demonstrating the printed instructions, and a video demonstrating other shapes. I'm still not clear on how the multicolor wraps featured in the product photos are supposed to be rolled out as the demonstration videos did not show this process at all. While the videos were okay to watch and provided an overview of the process, more explanation of the process would be helpful (the video soundtrack is only music).I know that $40 is quite a bit to pay for a few pounds of bread flour, some food coloring, a rolling pin, and a round cutter. What you are paying for is the experience. It is all packaged really nicely which does enhance the experience and make it more giftable; however, I expected this kit to provide much more in the way of instruction to help ensure success.

What I liked about this product: It was fun to make and watch everyone be so creative with the dumplings. They give you a recipe to try which was a good base starter recipe. We tweaked the recipe to our own liking and liked the dumplings. They have videos on how to mix, roll and cook the dumplings which are helpful. All natural ingredients. If you follow the recipe instructions then you will not need the dumpling mold/cutter but it’s nice to have if you cannot follow the technique they use to hand form the dumplings. This is a great concept for a dumpling making party which is what we did with our guest for dinner. The dough must sit for 30 minutes and we made use of that time catching up with our guest.What I disliked about this product: nothing. We meant to take after pictures but they were so good they were gone before we remembered.

Full disclosure: my knowledge of working with dough is pretty much limited to watching episodes of the Great British Bake-Off, so I was intimidated about trying this kit when I saw that it was medium difficulty. I have to say, I didn't realize how involved it is to make dumplings. At first the assembly and cooking instructions seemed daunting but the online videos were very helpful. (There are QR codes in the instructions that go to the website with tips for folding and cooking the dumplings. Unfortunately it took some digging to find the actual videos for making the dumplings but it was worth it once I found them.) It wasn't too difficult to make the dough. I used about a half cup of bread flour for each color, and I eyeballed the amount of dye I put in each one. They came out surprisingly bright. The yellow dye is from tumeric which you can smell from the dye packet but the smell isn't noticable once it's mixed into the dough and there isn't any flavor from it in the dumplings. Kneading the dough and rolling it out was new for me but I caught on after a couple minutes. I feel like the instructions overall were pretty good but one thing that I couldn't find in the instructions - how thin should the dough be before adding the filling? Also the circular cutter wasn't really mentioned in the instructions, and I ended up using it like a cookie cutter without too much trouble. Some of the dough "circles" I created by hand and they were useable but not pretty.Overall I'm really happy with the results. I was able to follow along and successfully make dumplings!! If I can do it, it's very likely that you can too. This was a fun kit to try out. It seemed like the instructions were missing a few detail steps that a novice like myself wouldn't know, but it wasn't detrimental to making dumplings. I learned a new skill and felt accomplished after the fact. I feel like this would be a great gift for someone who enjoys cooking and creativity.This kit comes with bread flour (over 4 cups), a small rolling pin, 4 powder food dyes, a metal dough cutter, and an instruction guide. This kit makes 4 batches of 20 dumplings and each batch takes about 1.5hr including 30 min to let the dough rest.

We really enjoyed making these as a family. Our daughters love helping us cook so this was perfect. You can get as creative as you want! It was like a fun cooking class in the convenience of your own home. They tasted good and we have ideas on things we would like to add next time. This would be a great gift idea.
